WAYS TO SAVE WATER THIS SUMMER

by | Jun 21, 2019

The countdown to summer is officially over and ahead are the days of high heat and drought. Being mindful about our water consumption is important for everyone. Without realizing it, you may be contributing to water waste in ways that be can easily remedied. Our water gurus put their minds together and came up with some easy ways to save water this summer.

WATER PLANTS IN THE MORNING OR AT NIGHT

During the summer, day time is full of warm, heat producing sunlight, meaning your watering schedule could need some adjusting. Rather than watering your garden during the day, make sure to carve out some time in the morning or evening to water. This way, you can minimize the amount of water that evaporates in the sun. If you have an automated sprinkler system, it’s easy to schedule during key times!

USE A COMMERCIAL CAR WASH

Sure, it’s warm and the perfect weather to wash your car- but did you know you can save up to 60 gallons of water by using a commercial car wash? Whether you pride yourself in finishing projects on your own or just enjoy washing your car, you may want to rethink an at-home car wash.

POOL OWNERS: PROTECT YOUR INVESTMENT!

Going to back to tip number 1, the high amount of heat given off by the sun can cause water to evaporate during the day- including the water in your pool! When your pool is not in use, make sure that you keep it covered to prevent water from evaporating. In doing so, you will save money on replacing the water lost from the sun and continue to responsibly enjoy your pool all summer long.

TAKE EFFICIENT SHOWERS

Does it take a while for the water to heat up? Try collecting the colder water in a bucket and use it to water your plants. Do you enjoy nice, long showers? You can maximize your time in the shower by setting a timer on your phone or get a waterproof clock that can hang in the shower. You would be surprised at how much you can get done in 5-7 minutes, max!

SWEEP AWAY YARD DEBRIS

While it may be easy to turn up the hose and rinse your driveway clean, there are many benefits to grabbing a broom and sweeping it up yourself, such as saving water and getting a good exercise! Believe it or not, the motion involved in sweeping is actually a good way to engage the core and arm muscles. Make it fun by giving yourself a time limit to clear out the driveway.

With the summer heat on its way, it is important to stay mindful of the amount of water that you are using every day. Taking the extra time to make some adjustments to your normal routine can make a huge impact on the amount of water that you use this summer!
